Sweet digital crack

This morning I made the decision to take the DS to Vegas with me, because out of my three portable electronic sources of amusement (the DS, the PSP, and the laptop) on the plane/in the event that said plane is delayed, the DS is the one I care least about and would cry the least about should something terrible happen to it. Also because it’d be the cheapest to replace.

Really. I got this DS like two years ago. I have one actual DS game: the first Phoenix Wright. I’ve also got the GBA Phantasy Star Collection, but that doesn’t count.

So I decided to go buy something new to put in the DS to take with me. The problem is, there really is not a whole lot of stuff out for the DS that I actually give a shit about. I don’t care about Mario things. I don’t care about Pokemans. I kind of care about Zelda, but not today. I almost got Professor Layton on trusted friends’ recommendations, but a) I didn’t feel like spending $35 for a timewaster and b) I kept looking at the box, thinking “‘I hef tvelve metchsteek!’ ‘FUCK YOU!’” and cracking up. I do care about Phoenix Wright, and they did have Apollo Justice, but having not played the second and third games yet and there being a lack of second game on the shelf, I had to pass. And I definitely did not want anything that would require me to blow or yell into the microphone in public.

So I got Puzzle Quest. It was $15 and I’d heard it was pretty good, so hey.

Three hours later, I put the DS down, emerged from the bedroom, and went to eat dinner. For the two or three people who haven’t heard of this game, it’s basically the unholy love child of J. Random Japanese RPG and Bejeweled. And I will play me some fuckin’ Bejeweled for hours and hours and hours.

IT’LL DO

Win and fail

Fail: head hurty. Go, Excedrin. Kick its ass. Also, my non-keypad “2″ key is dead, dead, dead. I have to copy/paste the “at” sign for e-mails. Note to self: get new keyboard tomorrow, you have been putting it off forever, it is time.

Win: Thank you, nasty old bat in Kroger parking lot who thought she didn’t need to look both ways before exiting the cart corral and walking right in front of bike and car traffic and got hell of attitude when told to watch where you’re going! Your rude ass inspired 2,100 words’ worth of potential kept New Year’s resolution. Thanks! :D

Amtgard gets some love in the Houston Press this week.

I still kinda miss it sometimes.

For crying out loud, DAZ.

So I guess Aiko 4 is out. That’s great. I’m happy the Aiko fans have something new to play with. More power to them.

V4.2 (which is required to use Aiko 4, by the way) is supposedly free right now if you join ArtZone and upload a profile pic. I say “supposedly” because I’m still waiting for the damn thing to show up in my account. [update: I just checked my account again and it's there, ready to be leeched over real internet] And male morphs are included. That’s awesome. Even though we know perfectly well how much third-party support there is for the Victoria male. Even Vittorio never got that much love with regard to clothing.

Guys? You have these other characters that have been gathering dust for years. Michael? David? Hiro? You can get to work on updating the male characters ANY OLD TIME NOW, GUYS, WE’VE ONLY BEEN WAITING WHAT, FIVE YEARS?

Seriously! I mean, I’m praying for Hiro 4 and David 4, but I’d even be happy with an upgrade from poor old decrepit five+-year-old Mike 3!

I would like to know why DAZ neglects its male characters so. I really would. Yes, there’s Apollo Max for free. Yes, there’s the G2 males. Apollo doesn’t do what I need him to do, and I still need to buy $40 worth of morphs to get Koji usable. And it’s not because they don’t sell, and it’s not because people don’t use them–I know the DAZ forums used to be full of people clamoring for David’s suit and the Bishounen package for Mike 3 and and and.

I’m glad DAZ is having fun with its Barbie dolls. That’s fine. But some of us would like to put some men in the picture with them.

PLEASE DAZ FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, UPDATE YER FKN MEN.

Love,
Me

Wow, I sure feel safer now

Just when you think the Saudis can’t possibly be any more backwards…

Also, the first fluffy bunny Wiccaboo I see going “OMG NEVAR AGAIN THE BURNING” over this gets the fucking hose.

My flash fiction, let me show you it

I have another wee story up at MicroHorror.

In somewhat related news, because I never do shit unless I have a deadline to blow off until the last minute, I have set one on the 30th of March. This is the date by which I will have a short story written to send to someone who will give me money for it. The last time I tried to submit something original to a paying market was 1996, it was one crappy story that got rejected, and I just never got around to trying again. Now it is high time I did so. \o/

YATTA \o/

yatta-o

This time last year, I weighed about 190 pounds and wore size 18 jeans.

Sometime between my birthday and the first week of June 2007, I figured “well, I quit smoking, now maybe I can work on this surplus of ass.” To keep things sane, I set two goals and whichever one I hit first would be the “yay I done it” point: either 145 pounds or size 9, whichever came first.

This morning I weighed 153 pounds. Which is about where I’ve been hovering for the last month or so, give or take a pound or two. And I’d been fretting about that, because I was this close to the 145-pound goal and that shit was not budging.

But this morning I went to Wal-Mart and tried on a pair of size 8 jeans and they fit.

So, uh, fuck the scale–the jeans speak truth! And if you would like a second opinion, we can ask the rest of my wardrobe: I’ve also lost a cup size (which doesn’t mean much except that I don’t absolutely have to go to Lane Bryant to buy a bra anymore), a T-shirt size, and a ring size, what the hell is that.

CONGRATURATION THIS STORY IS HAPPY END. \o/

…well, not really end. I mean, I’m still going to have to watch what I eat for basically the rest of my life, but lately I’ve been starting to trust myself to buy things like king cakes and boxes of cookies and half-pound bags of M&Ms and not eat the whole damn thing in one sitting. And Vegas is going to be a serious test. I am looking at you, Rio buffet.
